I use a spyware package called Little Snitch on my Mac. Briefly it will not allow an outbout request that doesn't exist in its database.

So, it will allow

firefox using http to port 80 since that is in the database.

It will also allow

SpamXMacintosh using any of the MANY connections it uses to various abuse... and the TEN POSSIBLE PORTS to my outbound mail via my ISP.

IT WILL NOT ALLOW Sp@mXMacintosh

Had to hand edit about 18 entries sad.gif to change the "a" to "@"

I believe you could go to Little Snitch, double click on the Sp@mX rule, and either delete the old one and add the new application and configure the 4 fields, or simply choose the new application for Sp@mX. My configuration for the above mentioned 4 fields shows Allow/Any/Any/Any.
I hope this helps.

Thanks but I prefer not to use any/any/any. Actually Little Snitch is fairly smart. I found that you can do a "bulk" application change.
