Full Version: SpamX gets stuck

Hi Jeff and all,

I am not sure if this is a bug or something with my machine, but I had 96 spams to process, so I kicked off the batch option. I am using ClickYes too, so went off to have Dinner while it trundled through these. When I returned about 30 minutes later I found that it had only processed about 5 mails and seemed to be stuck on one. The messages at the bottom where cycling through reporting that it was receiving info from the various whois db's, then starting again - RIPE, ARIN, .... etc. Each time the number of bytes for each db was the same. I stopped the app, closed it and started it again, it got stuck again. I then tried to process this one on it's own and the same happened. I moved it to another folder and kicked off the process in batch mode again. It ran through a number of them and then seemed to get stuck again. Each time I moved the mail and restarted. In the end, of the 96 I started with 9, now exist in the new folder. I have pasted the headers for two below, in case this is helpful.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it because the query was unable to find any addresses to send reports to?

Sorry, forgot to mention, I am using version 1.2.4.

Kind Regards

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for this....

SpamX Version 1.2.4 was going into a loop looking for a 24k abuse address to use to send the spam report. It went into a loop if it did not find one.

To correct this, SpamX Version 1.2.5 will look at the list once for a 24k address, if it does not find one, it will make another pass with less stringent lookup criteria. If it does not find one on this pass, it will make a note in the log file, and if you are in 'automated processing' it will continue on with the next email.

I've also changed the subject of the spam complaint from 'Spam Complaint' to 'Email Abuse Complaint'.

You can download the latest fixes at:
Full installation package:
http://www.hendricom.com/Downloads/spamxii.zip
Executable only:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug, and post the support headers.

I'm anxious to get your feedback!
Gordon
Jeff,

Something bad happened [Collaboration Data Objects - [MAPI_E_NOT_FOUND(8004010F)]]

This came up after installing the new 1.2.5 exe Jeff, not sure if it is related to the loop that bugged 1.2.4 - I got that too but IE crashed on me mid-post %-(

BTW installing the CDO stuff from the Office CD fixed the previous problem, hope this one is as easy ;-)

Hi Chris,

Is MS-Outlook (not Outlook Express) your default email client?

You can check this by right clicking the IE icon, click 'Properties', go to the 'Programs' tab, and make sure it says 'Microsoft Outlook' in the 'Email:' drop down.

Please let me know if this corrects your problem or not... unsure.gif

it all seems to be working fine now , Jeff, since I installed the latest patch.

I'll let you know if it goes pear-shaped again ;-)

That's great Chris! wink.gif
