Dear Jeff and friends,

While the replies I get from well-known ISPs are positive in tone, I'm concerned about some others who are refusing my mail. I'm afraid I don't know how to check the various status codes and interpret just what the real message is. In one case, I'm told that my IP address has been banned. The exact text follows. Please note that the IP address cited is not mine. It does appear to be in the same domain as one of Comcast's DNS servers. They had my real e-mail address, I munged it below.

A message (from <me@comcast.net>) was received at 18 Mar 2004 21:46:44 +0000.

The following addresses had delivery problems:

<ABUSE@TELUS.COM>
Permanent Failure: 553_Your_IP_address_(204.127.202.56)_was_banned_on_Thu_Mar_11_20:38:46_2004_UTC_
for_violating_TELUS'_email_policy_by_sending_a_high_percentage_of_undeliverable_mail
Delivery last attempted at Thu, 18 Mar 2004 21:46:46 -0000

The message also says the reason is a high percentage of undeliverable mail. The percentage could be 100% but the actual number of messages is not more than three or four.
Today I got several more from another ISP with a long list of addressees to whom I did not send messages. The reason given is that my "e-mail address is refused for policy reasons". I have never received spam nor sent a complaint to that ISP until today. That particular complaint went to three addresses none of which is listed in their refusal message. I have the details if anyone would care to help me understand what's going on.

Much TIA,
GCF

Hi Codger,

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback. I've also had some trouble reporting spam in the TELUS domain. I might send their admin an email to try to find out more about how/if they operate regarding spam reports.

It's also not impossible that, for whatever reason, your ip address wound up in someone's blacklist (mine is listed in SC's for some reason).

Anyone else's feedback is welcome smile.gif

Thanks Jeff,
I hope others will post on their experience as well. Below is the contents of the details.txt file returned from another ISP.
Some things to note:
1) I have never sent a complaint to this ISP until yesterday.
2) I sent the complaint to three of the addresses uncovered by SpamXII.
3) None of the addresses that refused delivery is among those to whom I sent a complaint.
4) What follows is copied and pasted as-is from the details.txt file except that I munged my e-mail address.
