I'm getting 'replies' like the one below; am I right in assuming that this is bound to happen since SpamX necessarily now reports abuse to multiple addresses, some of which are almost certainly going to be shutdown, inactive and/or fake:

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<POSTMASTER@KORNET.NET>
(reason: 554 5.3.2 Rejected by mailbox host. REPLY:(554 Transaction failed. 452 This mailbox is temporarily disabled. This mailbox is automatically enabled if the owner of this mailbox logs on.))

----- Transcript of session follows -----
.... while talking to mx.kornet.net.:
>>> DATA
<<< 554 5.3.2 Rejected by mailbox host. REPLY:(554 Transaction failed. 452 This mailbox is temporarily disabled. This mailbox is automatically enabled if the owner of this mailbox logs on.)
554 5.0.0 Service unavailable
554 5.3.0 forward: no home

This is par for the course. I wouldn't worry about it.... the VAST majority of you abuse complaints go through...
Tifferg
I've taken to just adding the relative failed e-mail address to the donotsend list ... saves on bounces and I don't think it's diminishing the overall effectiveness of SpamX as often that is one of the fallback addresses that complaints are sent to I believe.

Whilst there is an internet 'rule' (called RFC2821 ) which says in section 4.5.1 that every domain should have a postmaster@domain e-mail account that is active, it's becoming fairly obvious that many are unaware of this or choose to ignore it.

Strangely wink.gif most of the ignoring domains seem to be spam sources or relays. Equally strange is that quite a few come back as "mailbox full" ... I reckon they just need to get all those abuse complaints actioned LOL

Thanks for that reassurance...

Are you British too?

They say it takes one to know one... 'whilst' is something my Californian wife picks me up on :-)

abuse.net makes it policy to always include postmaster@* address by default, even if the domain doesn't have such an address listed in their contact info, for the reason that tifferg mentioned above.

When I'm feeling particularly onery, I will actually go in and look them up on arin.net and see if I can track down what the correct address is, if postmaster@* was the only one in the cc: list. Then report the domain to their provider if they're not providing correct contact information mad.gif

Amen Richard, good job! The folks at abuse.net like to get these updates at updates@abuse.net....
