Hi Jeff,

The imap fix you gave me in the other thread is great, if it weren't for the fact that - as I've now learned from bitter personal experience and googling for others' experiences - the POP3 problems with SL's Mail.app pale beside the IMAP4 ones!!! mad.gif Apple have really stuffed SL's Mail stability something shocking, and are in no rush to fix it, it seems. It was apparent from the moment a large number (curiously not all) of users installed 10.6.0, and it's now 2 months since the release of 10.6.2 - and still nothing. Everyone's waiting hopefully on 10.6.3 ...

So I think I'll switch back to POP3 for now, and live with the issue that I thought was major, but now seems strangely relatively minor .. ish ... well, sort of .. We'll see what 10.6.3 does bring. If no fix still, then I reckon it's reluctantly bye-bye Mail. In which event ....

I guess I could give Thunderbird a whirl, but I'm not sure where it's development is headed, and I've detected hints of imap / SL issues there as well <sigh!> So wondering about the new kid on the block - Postbox. It seems to be making a fair splash and looks like a rising star. But that raises the question of Purify support.

So Jeff - that was a long route to the question - What are your thoughts on Postbox, and are you considering adding it to the apps you support - especially in the Applescript department? Timeframe .. ?

Thanks.

I just sent the a request for a NFR copy. Cool looking product! smile.gif

On reading about it just recently, it seems it's based on Mozilla, so presumably that makes it some sort of cousin to T/bird? In which case presumably it wouldn't be hard to produce the code for Purify support (??) .. But that said, were I to switch to it, I'd be keen to know whether it will be made useable with the new Applescript method, which it appears T/bird isn't ....

According to Sherman Dickman (yes, that's his real name), "the problem is that Postbox is not generally scriptable. We implemented just enough to get it working with the OS apps, such as iCal and iPhoto, and then a few of the more popular GTD apps, but we're nowhere close to having a workable AppleScript Dictionary."

sad.gif indeed ..

Ah well, C'est la vie. Hoping all the more for 10.6.3 to fix Mail ...
