Hi Jeff and all,
Lately I've had a very high percentage of reports bouncing, usually like this:

-----
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at eisenhower.hendricom.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<internet_admin_mailin@equant.com>:
216.32.180.22 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 5.4.1 internet_admin_mailin@equant.com: Recipient address rejected: Access Denied
Giving up on 216.32.180.22.

-----

Sometimes the bounce message says my message is spam, but more usually it's just rejected as above. I don't know if anything can be done about this -- are there just more and more irresponsible ISPs??

Cheers, Mike.
Jeff Hendrickson
Having your abuse report show up as spam makes sense, because the original message is sent with the complaint.

The bounces are part of the game. Some smaller ISPs can't afford to keep / maintain an effective abuse infrastructure. After many years of reporting, I can tell you that I still believe in it. Admins from ISPs that do keep / maintain an effective abuse infrastructure can't do anything about a problem unless they know about it. FYI, I don't report to rogue countries like China, India, Russia, Korea, etc..., I filter these countries using Purify's Country Filter.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jeff. I'll keep slogging on. BTW, much as I hate to say it, Murky$oft is quite good. They jump right on spam coming through hotmail accounts. (There, it was hard, but I said it! :-)
Cheers, Mike.

Question: I have the "Report Excluded Countries" box unchecked. Why does Purify send reporting mails to .br, .ru, .ro abuse email addresses?
All this countries are excluded in my country filter list.

Good point Thomas! A domain being in a "friendly country" doe not mean that the person running it is. For example, I could easily create a web site that is hosted in Russia, but use my email address in the US for abuse reporting and contact. The Countries Database, though probably still over 95% complete, will have a few reports and emails that will slip through.

If it's so, why does Purify not filter the email addresses? If an abuse email address belongs to a country which is not in the list, it should not send the abuse report!
Would it be possible to pre-scan the abuse email addresses and eliminate the bad ones? In the report window Purify shows the email addresses where it send the reports to.
I understand your example, but isn't the other way round? I send abuse reports to abuse addresses in Russia, Poland, Brasil etc. I expected that this reports would be excluded.

I'll keep this in mind for the next version. smile.gif
