Full Version: Purify times out while reporting

Purify has been working flawlessly for me for so long I've forgotten how to track track this down:

When reporting a spam I received a "error = GetResponse() times out at 31" message.

Subsequent attempts at reporting hang up.

Where do I start to solve this problem?

Check your reporting SMTP server. The time-out message means that Purify is not receiving a response from your reporting server.

Purify listed three addresses in the Abuse Reports window, two of which were to Yahoo. I have received receipt confirmations for the two sent to Yahoo. So, my reporting SMTP server apparently was functioning at least somewhat. I didn't think to take a screen shot of the data when available and I cannot recall to whom the third Abuse Report was directed. This is one of the reasons I have been asking for a way to direct copies to me of all Abuse Reports sent by Purify.

The header lists <echopark1@hotmail.com> as the sender, but nothing was indicated in the Abuse Reports window as going to hotmail. So, I am left to assume that this sender info is forged. This is another of the reasons I have been asking for a way to direct copies to me of all Abuse Reports sent by Purify.

The URLs:

http://www.spammerurlhere.com [jkh removed spammer links]

were in the body. So, I'm left to assume that the timeout was associated with them. This is another of the reasons I have been asking for a way to direct copies to me of all Abuse Reports sent by Purify.

I get the Error Reporting For xxxxxxx@macexchange.se, error = GetResponse() times out at 31
I'm using the purify.cc smtp server.

And I get the same errors when I try from work, home...
But it usually works a lot better when I try in the morning to report.

I am consistently getting this error. Some reports go through, but others get stuck on this:

Error Reporting . .. ., error = GetResponse(), error 503 5.5.1 Need RCPT (recipient)

I think that you have something going on in your configuration, and I suspect that none of your reports are going out. You should never see Need RCPT, if Purify can't find an abuse address for a domain, it will ALWAYS report this to our tech support email address for further investigation.

I would suggest that you run a reporting session with logging on to get a hint regarding what is going on, then adjust your configuration.

I typically get this error when I selected to report all, or a large bunch of spam. If I do it in smaller chunks, it seems to work better. But I will still occasionally get this error. When I get it on a specific one, I retry that same exact one, and the error continues to repeat.

How do I run a reporting session?

I would like to see this email, if you think about it could you please copy and paste the entire email message content to a text file, and send me the text file as an attachment? To jeff at hendricom dot com.
