Full Version: Batch Processing

Jeff asked me to post this in hopes that someone might have a solution to this problem. I am having an issue with batch processing in SpamX. I must click the Start button for nearly every entry in the batch. I am running Outlook 2003 and Express Click Yes on Windows XP. When SpamX is trying to send a report, SpamX prompts me with “An action cannot be completed because a component (folder in Outlook) is not responding. Choose “Switch To” activate the component and correct the problem.” I click "Switch To", the report gets sent, the email is deleted and then the message “Something bad happened Type mismatch” displays. (Sometimes the deletion is preceded with the message “Something bad happened There must be at least one name or distribution list in the To, Cc, or Bcc box.”) I then have to click Start again to resume batch processing.

I assume that this is a standalone Outlook, not connected to an Exchange server?

Hi Kathy, I'm no expert wink.gif and my set up is pretty much the same as yours, Outlook XP + ClickYes. In your discussion with Jeff, I presume you have covered possibly corrupt folder/file structure in Outlook? If not, there are two possible actions that could help:

1) run Detect and Repair from Outlook's Help menu.

and if it continues to happen,

2) create a new folder for the "Spam not yet reported" (I call mine that ;-) ) move the spam there and try from that?

After that, I'm hiding behind Jeff and Codger cool.gif

Good luck

I ran the “detect & repair” as well as creating a new folder and still have the same results. I am connected to an Exchange server so I tried creating a personal folder to use and SpamX will not process entries from the personal folder. I get the error “Something bad happened [MAPI - [MAPI_E_UNKNOWN_ENTRYID(80040201)]]

Hi Kathy,

Hmmm, have you tried running SpamX on another machine to see if this is Outlook/Windows/SpamX installation related?

Regs,

MAPI is definitely a coder's area of expertise so I can't help there Kathy, sorry. Hope you can get it sorted though as SpamX does a great job and every kick a spammer gets is worth the energy expended. On my personal hit list are #1: virus coders, #2: spammers. Both are serious time wasters and life is short enough!

Bazz, does your question imply you are an Exchange server expert ...?
Jeff Hendrickson
I don't know if this will help or not Kathy, but Version 1.3.0 moves processed items to the 'Deleted Items' folder instead of deleting it outright....

Full installation package:

Kathy reports she has problems installing 1.3.0...

Missing component, and failure to register CDO.DLL

Jeff responds...

There's something goofy on your machine. Could you please try something?? Download the 'Executable Only' unzip it, and copy it into your SpamX folder. This will solve your first problem.
Executable only:

Second, please download COM Explorer??

This software has a trial period, and you only need to use it once. This program will examine your Windows registry and iinstalled component files, and tell you if/were things are broken, and give you the capability to fix them.

We are particularly interested in the DLL Servers tab to make sure that CDO is install properly, and in the Controls tab that you don't have any complaints regarding the Windows common controls.

When everthing is checked out, try running 1.3.0 in manual mode to process one or two emails, and then in batch for a few....

I'll wait for your feedback.... ph34r.gif
Codger
Kathy,

This is just a wild guess, but maybe worth a try.

Is the new folder in an Outlook .pst file on your computer/workstation?

1) If it is on your local machine, then maybe your user ID wasn't copied correctly to your local copy of Outlook. If I understand correctly Outlook connected to an Exchange server stores your folders on the server, so your ID might not have transported to your local copy.

2) If your new folder is in an Outlook file on the Exchange server, maybe SpamX can't work with that. (¿Jeff?)

3) This is really "out there" but have you tried this?:

I bought & installed Spam Control just a day or two before Windows
died.  I then did a fresh install (full format, then install) of Windows 2000 SP-4, MS Office 2000 (incl Outlook 2000) and (so far) only a few other programs.  I installed Spam Control shortly after I first fired up Outlook.  While it worked in the first installation, it does not after the second.  The error message includes this: Operation failed.  Object not found.  -2147221233.  At first I forgot to install the registration item.  I have since registered, but that apparently wasn't it.  Close and reopen the relevant pograms didn't help reboot didn't either.

You need to re-install CDO...
a) Start the Office 2000/XP or Outlook 2000/XP setup program.
cool.gif Click Add or Remove Features
c) Expand the list of features for Outlook by clicking on the + symbol next to Microsoft Outlook for Windows
d) Click on the icon next to 'Collaboration Data Objects' and select 'Run from My Computer' from the menu that appears
e) Click on Update Now

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Jeff Hendrickson
