Full Version: WILL NOT LAUNCH ISSUE

Hello,

I purchased the program last night and downloaded it today. I’ve found that thereis a bug in the programming that causes difficulty when expanding and trying to launch the program. There are numerous reports of this issue on the forums and no real fix. If it not a bug in the program, then way don't I have this problem with other downloaded software?

I’ve been using Mac computers since 1989 and I’m proficient in the use and functionality of the system. I am not a programmer, I am an end-user. I have downloaded the package at least 8 times and I’ve tried all variations of the suggestions given on the forums. This should not be the case for a new customer to go through. It's been an hour already and still no go!

I have a Mac G4 (10.3.9), Firefox Browser, Suffit 8, Checked permissions, Checked package contents, blah, blah blah... None of the suggestions work! Why doesn't the programmer fix the issue?

Any real insight?

UPDATE!

Thank you for the advise of having more work to do, I shouldn't have to do anything...

The .dmg file worked perfectly, and it is also 4.2.8 and not 4.2.9. I have reported this to techsupport, and there must be a problem wiht the new version.

Anyone reading this post: Don't bother wasting time trying the fixes, just download the .dmg until the issue is resolved with 4.2.9 (.zip, .sit).

What happens if you right/ctrl-click the download and open with Stuffit?
Jeff Hendrickson
You should be able to correct this by dragging the download archive to an open StuffIt window.
Sometimes the default decompression utility does not work properly.

There is also a disk mountable image for the program at :

p.s. thx Mark.

Have you tried updating stuffit to latest, .sit and .zip files are sometimes a problem giving an error if you double click them, and work perfectly OK if you open expander first and then drop it on the expander icon, these arent the only ones with this problem

A lot of anger in the world today -hmm huh.gif

Historically the .zip files end up as toast because of Apple's BOMArchiveHelper. In your case (.sit files) I'd be suspicious of StuffIt 8 -it's significantly out of date

If you're not inclined to source the free download to StuffIt Expander 10.02 then grab the dmg file.

Last of all, take a deep breath, relax and show some respect to the developer. Yes there have been issues with the downloads but he has gone to great lengths to provide alternatives considering the variety of computers/os/setups out there. Besides, there is great support from users and the developer through these forums -something you rarely see with other products.
