Is anyone else out there getting an "SMTP 550 Administrative Prohibition" error when processing spam messages using Sp@mX 4.2.8 for Mac, under Mac OS X 10.4.6 (PPC), with all Apple updates installed including the new Apple Security Update 2006-003?

I haven't experienced any problems with that same setup, using Sp@mXMac 4.2.7, but I get a dialog containing that error message with every message I process using Sp@mXMac 4.2.8. (If I replace the 4.2.8 application with 4.2.7 again, that older version works fine.)

David,

I have same config and Sp@mX 4.2.8 is working OK.

On checking web, an SMTP Error 550 looks like you are not authorised to relay messages to the Outgoing SMTP server you have in Sp@mX Config. For some reason, your account is not being recognized as valid when you use 4.2.8 but works OK when you use 4.2.7. Only thing I could think of may be 4.2.8's new feature where the sender is tagged as

Not entirely sure if an SMTP Server can blacklist connections based on suspect characters in From such as @.

As a test, making sure you use the same SMTP server, you could go into your favourite email app, change the account name from your real name to "Sp@mX Reporter" and try and send email to a friend's email address that is with a different ISP. Look to see if you get same error.

If it works then I have no other ideas. Jeff????

I'm having a similar problem w/ 4.2.8. I get the following error message on all email being reported since upgrading to 4.2.8:

"SMTP error 550 550 Your message does not conform to RFC2822 standard."

When upgrrading I made no configuration changes to my previous 4.2.7 settings.

Anyhoo, I'll post an update soon that make this user configurable.

Great detective work on everyone's part, and thanks David!

Thanks for your assistance, Tom--it seems that you were 100% correct about the cause of my problem, because it's now working OK under Sp@mXMac4.2.9.

Thanks also to rt2--your confirmation of the problem helped show it wasn't all in my mind. (Funny things happen in there sometimes! <g>)

And, of course, many thanks to Jeff for fixing it for me--now I can start getting those evil spammers again!
