Bingo!! tongue.gif

This morning I used Em@ilCRX to:

- receive a spam email using the Em@ilCRX SMTP Server
- store it in the Em@ilCRX database
- correctly identified the email as suspect
- sent a challenge to the sender using the Em@ilCRX SMTP Server, which of course bounced
- intercepted the bounce, and looked up the message for which the challenge was sent in the Em@ilCRX database
- now it can simply delete the bounce, and the message
- OR export it to be reported using Sp@mX!!

- I'm able to send and receive all of my email from all of my POP accounts through the Em@ilCRX SMTP Server

It looks like this will be ready to be released for testing around the end of the month.

BTW, the next version of Sp@mX will be modified to work seamlessly with Em@ilCRX!

Jeff,

Wonderful!

How will those of us who use commercial ISPs/hosts albeit with our own domains use Em@ilCRX?

By the way, is this its provisional or final name, given that it may not be so easily pronounceable and hence easily remembered?
Jeff Hendrickson
Mark,

Thanks for this!

Run the Em@ilCRX SMTP Server on your desktop, and it will periodically check all of the POP accounts that you've defined in your configuration. Then it stores the emails in the Em@ilCRX database. Configure your email client (e.g. Apple Mail) to check the Em@ilCRX POP Server which will return all of the unread, cleared email.

Configure your email client (e.g. Apple Mail) to send email through the Em@ilCRX SMTP Server. It stores the email in the Em@ilCRX database, and then periodically sends it on through an external user defined SMTP server.

Clunk, has the gauntlet been thrown down?? I'd love to hear suggestions for a better name. I've already registered the Em@ilCRX domain, so it would have to be a hum-dinger.
msealey
Jeff,

Thanks for that.

Is it a 'server' as such: Comcast, for one, doesn't allow its customers to run servers from their machines?

As long as everyone says "Email See RX", I'm sure it'll be fine smile.gif

Thanks for this Mark.

Right you are. Comcast is my ISP, and you have to pay more money to host a server on one of their connections. This is not necessary to use Em@ilCRX.

The Em@ilCRX SMTP server acts exactly like any SMTP server from an email client (e.g. Apple Mail) perspective, but it's really a 'middle man' between the email client, and the source POP and destination SMTP server(s) of the user.

During the email's brief stay on the Em@ilCRX server -

- Inbound POP messages are examined for validity using a combination of approaches, good messages go through to the email client, bad messages are deleted and/or reported.

- Outbound SMTP messages are saved for future reference in anticipation of receiving responses to challenges, email abuse complaints, bounces, etc...., and sent on to the user's SMTP server. The messages are cleaned periodically when no longer needed.

Jeff,

I see. I can't wait ohmy.gif

Sounds great!

These challenges will be automatic, right? That is, they will require no additional action on the part of a legitimate sender ...right?
Jeff Hendrickson
Yes sir. All of the processing done on the server will be automated.

Jeff

Just curious.

I thought the @ character was a reserved character (RFC 3986) and therefore couldn't be used in a URI.

So can you register a domain containing the @ character?

Peter

I take it no SSL IMAP support yet? 50% of my mail comes via SSL IMAP now.
Jeff Hendrickson
Thanks guys ...

The domain is www.emailcrx.com.

IMAP support will follow on very quickly after the release. smile.gif
